At midnight of December 16th, into the wee morning of December 17th, Street Fighter x Mega Man was released. Street Fighter x Mega Man is a free PC download that can be downloaded at Capcom’s Mega Man Group Page. So, you may have a lot of questions…

Keep in mind, most of this info can be found in the game itself….

Where can I download SFxMM?
You can download it at Capcom’s Mega Man Group. Or you can download directly at these directories: U.S. Version, EU Version.

What’s the story of Street Fighter x Mega Man?
Having fought countless robot masters over the years, Mega Man is ready to lay back, relax and enjoy his 25th Anniversary. Getting wind of this, Ryu and his fellow Street Fighters want one last battle before they let their own anniversary finish. Charge up your mega busters and stretch out your lightning legs, this is Street Fighter X Mega Man!

A true collaboration between Capcom and its fans for Mega Man’s and Street Fighter’s 25th Anniversary, Street Fighter x Mega Man was created and developed by Singapore native Seow Zong Hui (aka “Sonic”), with an original soundtrack by Luke Esquivel (aka “A_Rival”), and with support provided Capcom, Street Fighter X Mega Man stars the Blue Bomber as he goes toe-to-toe with some of Street Fighter’s most beloved characters complete with their own individual themed stages and boss battles. Jump, shoot, and use your special new Street Fighter abilities to defeat your foes and become the world’s strongest robot!

Who are the 8 “Robot Masters” in SFxMM?
Rolento
Ryu
Rose
Dhalsim
C. Viper
Urien
Blanka
Chun Li

What are the minimum PC specs for Street Fighter x Mega Man?
OS: Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz and up
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 9.0c/Shader3.0 and up supported
(operation on-board is not guaranteed)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and up,
VRAM: 256MB and up
Sound: DirectSound, DirectX9.0c Compatible Audio

Just note: Just because your computer meets these requirements, you’re not free, at least in the first version of SFxMM. Some has experienced slowdowns and button lag in the 1.0.0.0 version.

What’s the button/keyboard configuration?
Buttons:

Standard keyboard layout
(Gamepad is recognized if plugged in before running the game)

W-up
A-left
S-down
D-right
K-shoot
L-jump
I-weaponchange (right)
O-weaponchange2 (left)
Down+jump-sliding
Enter-start/pause/confirm
ESC-quit game

During Pause Menu
F1-switch device
F2-configure controls
F3-default Controls
F4-toggle window sizes

There’s a gamepad?
If you have a PS3 controller, you can download MotionJoy, and have the keyboard buttons map to the PS3 controller using this tutorial.

As for Xbox 360 controllers, all you’d need to do is install the Xbox 360 controller software into your PC, and it’ll be recognized. Just as with any standard PC controller.

How can Mega Man copy the World Warriors’ powers if they’re human?
SFxMM is not a cannon story to the Mega Man universe, and according to Capcom, the game is supposed to be taken as a fun game…

Well, the game is non-canon, so it doesn’t have to follow the in-universe reasonings for how things works, it just has to follow how the gameplay formula works.

Alternatively, one could just believe that the Street Fighters that MegaMan fights are robotic copies or something.

If I have questions about the game, where can I ask Capcom?
You can go to Capcom-Unity Forums, and ask. Like I did here.

I will update this story as I receive new information about SFxMM.

Throughout 2012, Street Fighter has been celebrating it’s very own 25th anniversary. This month, Mega Man begins celebrating his 25th anniversary, starting from December 17th, 2012 to December 17th, 2013. On December 8th, Capcom announced that they’d be bringing out Street Fighter x Mega Man to commemorate Mega Man’s 25th Anniversy on December 17th, 2012 as a free PC download.

At midnight of December 16th, into the wee morning of December 17th, the game was released. According to Capcom, the server has been getting hammered by many people trying to download the game…

Street Fighter X Mega Man, our playable Xmas card to the 25th anniversary of two of Capcom’s most revered franchises, went live in the wee hours of the night. As one might expect for an awesome FREE game, our servers are getting hammered somethin’ fierce. While you wait for your download, why not enjoy a candid look at how this grassroots love song came together?!

Capcom also released a video detailing how this project all came about, shared some info about the game…

But the game has been met with some problems, not only have the servers been hit with a lot of fans trying to download the game (which results in slow download speeds, or receiving a corrupted file), the game itself has been slow for some fans. I downloaded the game as soon as it was available, and I have found the game to be slow. I started a thread about it at Capcom Unity, and some fans are experiencing the same things I have been experiencing.

Nonetheless, Capcom released a few direct downloads for those who’ve been having problems with downloading the game: US version, EU version. Check out the teaser trailer of SFxMegaMan!

How’d this come about, you ask? A fan approached Capcom’s Christian Svensson at EVO 2012. According to Capcom…

Best of all, this is a true collaboration between Capcom and its fans. Singapore superfan Seow Zong Hui (maybe you’ve seen his Dhalsim skills?) approached our own Christian Svensson back at EVO 2012 with the skeleton of SFxMM running on a laptop. Seeing the potential and serendipitous opportunity, Sven shared it with GregaMan and I a week later. We evaluated (aka played to death) it and said uh yeah, this is pretty damn cool. Then it all started coming together.

In any case, in order to get Street Fighter x Mega Man, you have to download it from Capcom Unity/Mega Man page.

GamesCom 2012 was this past week. The event took place between August 15th to 19th, so it’s actually on-going right now. Some people have gotten their hands on with the PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken. If you’d like to know what I thought of the original game on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, check out my impressions. Today, I bring you a recap of videos that were released at GamesCom 2012. Enjoy!

Capcom outlined the features for the PlayStation Vita…

- 55 characters to choose from. [Character List]
- Capcom says it’s all unlocked and playable on PSVita. Mmmmright.
- Difficulty level is consistent with your style. If your expertise with SFxTekken is beginner, you start as beginner, but you can advance to tougher styles.
- “Ease into the fight with beginner-friendly Casual Style.” says Capcom.
- Tap screen for normal attacks.
- Swipe screen for special moves.
- Switch characters with rear touch pad.
- Auto jumps and moves make it easy for you to focus your attacks.
- Assist Gem helps you level up, and lets you use manual controls.
- Assist Gems and Auto Inputs help you master how to do moves.
- Boost Gem helps you to power up, and master your gem to reach your goals.
- As it has been said many times before: DLC from PS3 can be transferred into your PSVita.
- You can find players online.
- You can go into ranked matches.
- PS3 and PSVita crossplay is possible.
- That means, if you’re on PlayStation Vita, you can battle a PlayStation 3 owner. And vice versa.

Capcom released a bunch of montages to show off Street Fighter x Tekken on PSVita…

Chun Li and Asuka duke it out first. Then Cammy tries her luck against Asuka. Ken, Ibuki, Sagat, Dhalsim, Julia, Rolento, Kazuya, Heihachi, Jin, Juri, Vega, and Xiaoyu all duke it out. Enjoy the next montage…

Street Fighter x Tekken arrives on PlayStation Vita on October 19th in Europe, on October 23rd in United States, and on October 25th in Japan. Are you ready to battle?

Christie and Lei visit some business person. When they leave, Lei’s tipped off about Shadowloo following them. Dudley and Elena enjoy their spoils in an airplane. Sakura, and Blanka run through the airport to find someone.. only to have Bryan pick up a mystery box, which turns out to be a morphed machine known as Jack X. Guy and Cody investigate what’s going on. Meanwhile, Lei tries to escape from Shadowloo, Christie not withstanding. They come to a dead end, and find Balrog crashing the party. They try to escape, only to be boxed in with Vega’s tactics. They got all into a fight until Cammy and Chun Li arrives to help out. Then panned out to Guy and Cody overhearing a conversation that Juri was having…

Features include…

- With PlayStation Vita’s Near technology, you can broadcast your character customizations.
- You can also pick up these customizations.
- It’s called Adhoc; you can request a battle with nearby players.
- You can exchange your fight replays to other players nearby.
- Local fights are allowed.
- You can collect something called “KO Monuments” which is kind of like XBL’s Achievements, or PSN’s Trophies, or Call of Duty’s Ranks into Prestige. Reminds me of Samsh Bros. Melee’s trophies, though.
- You K.O. someone, you earn the KO Monuments.
- There’s a gallery mode where you can see music and movies.
- You can collect sound and music in your battles.
- Augumented Reality is available in SFxT.
- You can photograph your favorite fighters. Anywhere.

Street Fighter x Tekken arrives on PlayStation Vita on October 19th in Europe, on October 23rd in United States, and on October 25th in Japan. Are you ready to battle?

Capcom recently posted at lot of Street Fighter x Tekken videos in light of E32012. The first video, Capcom re-uploaded a video that was posted, but it’s been re-uploaded for compliance with ESRB. Because, ya know, ESRB is very vigilant on sweet nothings.

I mean, really? What was so violent or offensive about the old video? Too mature for the kiddies? Alright, okay! Moving along now. June 4th was a busy day for a lot of companies, that includes Capcom. In the first trailer, it features Guy, and Cody from Final Fight, and Street Fighter Alpha series respectively.

The second trailer features Bryan, Jack, Lars and Alisa. They’re all from the Tekken side of the equation, as they’ve appeared in Tekken in one shape or form. They show off their moves.

And then, at the end the day, Capcom released the PlayStation Vita trailer of SFxTekken…

“Who will come out on top?”
“Who will taste victory?”

Special PSVita version of SFxTekken features:

- Color customization: Customize colors for your characters.
- Touch screen acts as your controls for customization of colors.
- Battle Tap: Customize your touch controls with ease.
- Move the panel anywhere on the screen; making moves easy for your play on PSVita.
- Your super meter can be touched and commanded to suit your move style.

There’s a huge bit at the end about Street Fighter’s 25th anniversary celebration.

Over the weekend, Capcom held their annual event centered around revealing their newest games. At Captivate 2012, Capcom showed off some trailers for the PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken. The first one is a story trailer about what’s going on in SFxTekken for PSVita. It’s a long introduction trailer, enjoy…

Funny trailer, eh? Capcom released another trailer, and they’re calling SFxTekken on PSVita “Street Fighter x Tekken Vita.” The trailer reveals six new characters that will join the PlayStation Vita roster, they are: Blanka, Sakura, Dudley, Elena, Lei, and Christie.

SF x Tekken features cross-platform play, what that means is that if you own both PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita versions of Street Fighter x Tekken – you can get the DLC characters for free on either version. For example, let’s say you bought DLC on PlayStation 3, according to Capcom, the DLC you bought on PS3 will appear on PlayStation Vita. And vice versa.

Akuma has always been a strong fighter in any one of Capcom’s Street Fighter games. It has been quite a while since he’s been highlighted in a unveiling or reveal. Capcom released a cinematic trailer highlighting Akuma, and reveals Ogre as a character in the SF x Tekken roster.

The trailer shows off some neat graphics display all over the place. It really shows how much vision Capcom has. Capcom also released a trailer as a precursor to the SF x Tekken launch. It’s about the story of Street Fighter x Tekken so far.

I attended Capcom’s Fight Club event on Feb 2nd, and I got to play two versions of Street Fighter x Tekken; the Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 versions. A playStation Vita version is forthcoming after the launch of SFxTekken on consoles. SFxTekken for PSVita is going to be released in the fall. PC players are going to have to wait until May for their port of SFxTekken.

Most of the kiosks that were at the event were all situated on the Gem System. The mode has been featured throughout Capcom’s Fight Club on Feb 2nd, to help promote the game’s mode. Some players were better than others at it.

What is this Gem System?
The gem system in a nutshell a battle system that allows SF x Tekken players to receive a ‘boost’ of sorts. These 5 gems are selectable at the character select screen. The gems correspond to the abilities that you are able to execute in-game. There are many types of gems available, here are a few: An attack gem is red, to get speed you need a green gem, for defense you need a yellow gem, to have the c. gauge you need a blue gem, and to have an assist ability, you need a purple gem. You can mix all of these gems together to form a combination of boosts. The gems is connected to the super/EX meter at the bottom of the screen.

Want to see just how deep the Gem System is? Check out the video:

Okay, so how does the game play?
I’m a casual fighting game player, I have played Street Fighter before, I have played Tekken before. The last game I played were Street Fighter 3, and Tekken 6.

Street Fighter x Tekken is a 3D fighter graphically, but the game is played on a 2D plane. So, accordingly, the controls of Tekken characters are going to be stuck on the Street Fighter 4 engine. And it shows. Street Fighter x Tekken retains Tekken’s 4-button fighting scheme. I think Tekken characters play pretty well on Street Fighter 4′s engine. You can execute moves a little better with SF4′s control scheme. Street Fighter characters play similar to their Street Fighter 4 fighting schemes.

I played Street Fighter x Tekken on the official SF x Tekken arcade stick for Xbox 360. I think the arcade sticks are really nicely designed. But I do notice that there are a few hitches here and there. SF x Tekken isn’t as responsive on a stick than a controller. Having played the PlayStation 3 version of Street Fighter x Tekken, I strongly believe there’s a slight delay in response. I can execute moves on PS3 than I would on an arcade stick.

Street Fighter x Tekken Graphics
One of the first things I noticed right off the bat when I saw Street Fighter x Tekken in gameplay trailers, was that the graphics seem to be ugly for the most part. When I attended Capcom’s Fight Club, that first impression of SF x Tekken disappeared. The images, the gameplay videos posted on various websites do not do the game justice. The special effects has an effect of it’s own, so those ugly black effects you see in videos – those aren’t even noticeable once you play the game. Second thing I notice with graphics is that the environments seem rough. Having played the game, that impression disappeared, because the environments look really, really colorful. Capcom really captured the Street Fighter feel with the stages – especially the trailers stage. Which I assume is Balrog’s stage. With SF4, I felt like something was missing. That missing component was evident in SF x Tekken. Somehow I feel like this should have been SF4, and not SF x Tekken.

Street Fighter Fun Factor
For the most part, SF x Tekken is fun, but I really don’t like the ‘rules’ for the game because most of the 2 vs 2 games, those tag team games usually allow you to deplete both characters or beat both characters. Street Fighter x Tekken goes against the grain, between your player and the other CPU player, you have one life. That’s it. Once the person with the lowest life is dead, the match stops. This is true with your co-op player, even though that both of you can play at the same time. So, if your partner dies, you lose.

Tekken Tag Tournament fans will notice that the rules in the game is similar to what they’re used to. However, I feel that this rule of the first person that reduces their health to zero loses the match. That means if your opponent defeats one of your characters, they win, mixed with the Gem System and the Pandora mode is a bad combination. Why? Because this would mean that Street Fighter x Tekken is all about power moves. The only reason why Tekken Tag Tournament got away with this rule is because of the balancing. Some of TAG’s moves are deemed as “power moves” but only in some circumstances. Tekken Tag Tournament has always been about combos, Street Fighter x Tekken does not encourage dial-a-combo like TAG does. Then again, it feels like SF x Tekken is a marketing stunt on Capcom’s part to help push sales of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which is slated to be released quite soon for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. An arcade version of the game is already out.

Wait, there’s a co-op mode?
Yeap, go back to the video above and see for yourself. You and your co-op buddy can fight against the other side together. But as implied, there’s a risk that come with it; once one of you dies, it’s game over.

Street Fighter x Tekken sound
Since Fight Club was packed with people, you couldn’t really hear the sounds very well. From what I hear, the game is loud, full of sound effects. You can even hear some small details as you play.

Anything else worth mentioning?
I really like the attention to detail in Street Fighter x Tekken. Like Guile, his pose was so funny that I laughed out loud. In one of the stages, Zangief is seen trying to break the window. The character select screen has animated characters, and then when the game proceeds to the “Vs” screen, all of the characters are still animated.

The Verdict
Capcom really has gone all out with Street Fighter x Tekken. Capcom really captured the Street Fighter feel with SFxTekken. The game’s fun, but the fun can be ruined during play. The rules of the game may confuse some people, and it can infuriate some people – I have seen it first hand. Half the time, you can play the game, but on the other half you got to keep the gem system in mind while playing. In my play time with SF x Tekken, I didn’t really pay attention to the Gem System, and I got my @$$ kicked. I think that Street Fighter x Tekken is more geared towards the hardcore fighting fans. Casual fighting fans will either like it or not. I’m going with the latter. Not a lot of people will like it, it’s a little complicated for casuals.
